I want to know as to how important is the experience for the entrance in good MBA college?
Till the time you clear the written exam everybody is equal. Once you clear the written examination the differentiation starts. Again all these depends upon the institute policy. For example: IIM Ahmedabad prefers fresh graduates rather than experienced one.
IIMB & IIMC also prefers a combination of Fresh graduates and experienced one.
Experienced person gets some weightage in interview where institute policy is in their favour.
But if you talk about Indian School of Business, Hyderabad which offers one year MBA programme only takes experienced ones. That too more than two years. The average batch experience varies between three to seven years. It conducts its own entrance examination. (Cost Rs. 16 lakh)
Again if you want to do part time MBA from any of the institute (IMT- Ghaziabad, MDI - Gurgaon, FMS-Delhi, XLRI- Jamshedpur, IGNOU etc.) you should possess a three years experience.
All other MBA institutes hardly cares about experienced or inexperienced ones. But when it comes to understanding the subject at any business school experience really matters as you would be able to relate the theories with practical work.

Normally CAT papers comprises the following:

Preference varies from institute to institute. Some prefer engineers with 2 - 4 years of work experience. Some prefer fresh graduates. But finally it is the performance in GD and Interview which matters. You have to only think of making an impact in GD and Interview rest will follow.
Do engineers have better chances of getting through CAT? By engineers I mean students who have BE or B tech degrees and if they do ....why?
Every body think so because Engineers are good at quant and data interpretation. But they face problem with VA and RC. Whereas gradutes are good in VA and RC and poor in quant. We suggest to the students that if you are planning to take CAT entrance then you should start preparation much in advance. May be an year in advance. Last minute preparation does not work in such competitions.

You are not required to remember all the shortcuts as you will never be able to do this. Choose a set of Magical Method which you can handle and always use them to bring them in practice.
What material should I follow? Is self-study enough to crack CAT?
There are numerous books which is available in the market. You can get material from any professional coaching institute also.
You are going to crack CAT on your will power and self study only but we would recommend that you should take guidance. We are saying so because the professioanl institute brings expertise with them which you require to hammer your way to IIMs.
How to build Vocabulary for CAT
I hope you must be going through some news paper daily. I also hope that it is an English news paper. If the situation is not what I am expecting then please start reading an English Daily with special emphasis on editorial section.
You must go through all the three editorials printed everyday.
While going through the editorials you will come across unknown words whose meaning is not clear to you. Write those words and their meaning in separate note book daily. This requires a little effort on your part but I can assure you that after a month or so you vocabulary will be very strong. Do not cram the words and its meaning. Write these words and their meaning on a separate piece of paper and put infront of your study table.
Now this is the toughest part: Do it as Instructed.
Take a look for five minutes at the words when you come at the table and when you leave the table. At the end of the day frame your own sentence using these words. If you can adapt this you are through.
I have been working for a long time now. I'm totally out of touch with studies. What is the best way to prepare for CAT?
If you want to take CAT then you will be required to prepare for it.
For the persons like you who is out of touch undertaking studying regimen is difficult. Its your will power which will over come such odds. It means you require a lot of will power. You require to make a schedule and stick with it.
You can start by getting in touch of subjects slowly, work with your calculation speed and reading speed, brush up the basics, take tests. But all this is not easy. Take one step at a time. Devote atleast three hours per day. Ask yourself, are you prepared to do these? If answer to these questions is yes, then go ahead and do it.

How can speed compensate for depth of understanding and intelligence?
You are right that speed cannot compensate for depth of understanding and intelligence but when there is a combination of all these three things then nobody will stop you from reaching your goal. But if you only have a deep understanding and intelligence then in my view it's waste of intelligence and knowledge. Just see the CAT paper, as you know it's very lengthy one and if you do not have the required speed for it then you will not be able to utilise your skills and it will be sheer waste of your intelligence.
What is the level of maths questions in CAT, does it include calculus? I am good at English but phobic of maths although I m doing my comp engg. how and when do I need to start with IIM in mind?
Some portion of Calculus come in CAT like functions, maxima & minima etc. but not hard core differentiation and integration.
You need to start at least an year in advance for IIMs.
As far as how is concerned I would suggest you to first build your calculation and reading speed then concentrate on basics and then start taking tests. I have seen students starting with tests. This is a futile strategy and does not work.
How to manage time effectively? How to omit questions?
Your question is to the point. I think every student should know the answer of this question.
The answer is: You should start from your strength. Build the castle around your strength. I mean to say is tackle those portion in which you are strong. If you start with your strength then your confidence will grow with each question. But if you start from the weak section then you will get frustrated and lose confidence with each question.
Now your second querry: As soon as you see the question you know whether you can answer it or not. The questions which you can not answer will have two types one which is totally unknown and second which falls under may be known questions. Do not touch unknown questions.

How to crack CAT?
For cracking CAT you require Attitude, Skill and Knowledge. What does this mean?
This means that you should put your 100% behind CAT. Prepare to the full extent and take the examination with full vigor.

What should be the startegy to clear cat 2007 when I have 30 days left?
