Why should you become a Vedic Math Teacher?
Written by Pradeep Kumar
Wednesday, 01 May 2013 14:26

In last 20 years I have heard this question several times from the participnats. Why should I become a Vedic Math Teacher? Today, I am writing what I replied to them.

Vedic Maths acts as student puller and Increases your earnings.

How?

When a prospective student will learn that you can  train him to calculate 10 times faster using Vedic Mathematics (Magical Methods) he would like to join you. You can teach this along with the subjects you are teaching. More and more students joining you means more revenue.

You might be tempted to say that I do not require this. A lot of teachers who told me this sometime back has got trained in Vedic Mathematics and enjoying the fruit. They are fared better than other teachers/ tutors in the market. They are able to secure their future and face intense competition by embracing Vedic Maths because it provided them with the edge they required.

Children come to them because they are able to offer something extra. This something extra delights students and makes learning mathematics easy. Good word spreads fast and one student brings several of his friends with him. Your referral starts growing and your expenditure on advertisement goes down. Net Result: Increase in Profitability.

You can also learn Vedic Maths and start teaching students in your area. We have specially developed course for Tutors who would like to teach Vedic Maths with the subject he is teaching. Learn To teach Vedic Maths.

Why Do Students Fear Mathematics?
Written by Pradeep Kumar
Thursday, 25 April 2013 14:39

I have listed out the causes of Maths Fear as per my iunderstanding of the subject. Vedic Maths and Magical Methods can be one of the system which would help you to work on Maths fear and reduce it.

Mathematics is Abstract: Mathematics is abstract. It does not have a shape. Children cannot see it. They need to visualize properly for solving a mathematical problem. Visualization comes from the everyday experience and relating mathematics with it requires a very strong trainer.

Present Teaching System: Another major contributor to the difficulty of mathematics is lack of innovation in conventional system of teaching. The conventional system of teaching makes mathematics a dud and boring subject. Students are unable to visualize the concept taught by the teacher. Therefore, their interest level goes down. Hence they start developing a disassociation with the subject. If this disassociation continues for a longer period of time child starts hating mathematics.

This phenomenon of Math fear is growing everyday and now central board has also recognized this problem. Through their circular they have asked the schools to create an environment where child takes interest in Mathematics.

Problem in converting word problems into mathematical equations:Converting word problems into mathematical equation requires good understanding of the language and math fundamentals.  Fundamentals are still taught in old-fashioned way in the school. Teachers teach fundamental without much of illustration therefore, students are not able to visualize the problem when they face it. They try to learn mathematics much like other subjects where they memorize facts and figures. Mathematics wants a thorough and good understanding.

Poor Command over Tables:I interact with thousands of children every month.  To my dismay I find that a good number of students show poor command over the tables. A few of them have gone to the higher classes say IX and X and still they rely on finger counting. When faced with multiplication like 18 × 7 they follow the complete multiplication steps to get the answer. Due to this Calculation takes more time and even a simple mathematics paper seems difficult to the students. Here the question arises why do students have poor command over the tables? As far as my understanding goes we are moving towards Public School led education system and as we are anglicizing our education system more and more students are suffering from this syndrome. They have poor command over the tables because tables are not taught in mother tongue.

No system of Logic Development: Our education system works on rote methodology. It tests you for how much you can cram before the examination day and vomit on the examination day. Mathematics does not work that way. It works on logic. In response to my question posted in a discussion group "Why did you fear Mathematics?" Pooja Bhatnagar wrote: I dreaded mathematics! Would you believe if I told you that I actually got fever the night before my 10th boards maths exam !! I still managed a decent 83% though but the fear of maths........ Till date the numbers get mixed up in my mind! The fear actually came in pretty late, when we started handling the more complex calculations. Log tables never were any friendly to me. And assuming alphabets to be numbers again confused me to no end.

Poor Trainers: Most of the time I find that the person teaching mathematics does not enjoy mathematics himself. If a math teacher does not enjoy mathematics then how can he create enjoyment for students? Take the example of Dhyuti. She is a student of class-1. She is average in mathematics. Her mother was fed up with math teacher's remark on Dhyuti's notebook. She did not know how to improve her daughter's mathematics. One day she went to meet Dhyuti's Math teacher. During the discussion the math teacher revealed that she is a History graduate entrusted with the responsibility of teaching mathematics. She does not like teaching mathematics.  Effectively, in Dhyuti's class children developed a strong dislike for mathematics. Children are pure at their heart. Everything around them affects them. Be it dislike to mathematics shown by parents or teachers.

Calculation Takes Long time: Samrana (Name changed) a class VI student from Gurgaon narrates his stories. He says that he is never able to understand mathematical concepts. He fears mathematics because of calculation. He hates numbers. It takes him a lot of time to add two numbers. He fears multiplication and division. He finds mathematics boring. It does not excite his imagination. But he enjoys games. He hopes against hope that one day his math learning would be full of fun.

How to Start a Training Business?
Written by Pradeep Kumar

What is a Training Business?

A Training Business is a service oriented business where you do not sell any product. Here you sell your expertise in some subject and train willing persons in that subject and charge a fee for it. It can be training students in Vedic Maths or something else.

How It Differs From Normal Product Sales Business?

Touch & Feel: Selling product is easier because here your customers are able to see the product and touch & feel it. Selling services is difficult because here customers do not see anything. They can not touch and feel it. They can only experience it. So when you wish to enter in Vedic Maths Training or any other training then you should be ready to let them experience it.

Investment: Product Sales Business is a capital intensive business. To start any such business a person requires a lot of money. Training Business is not a capital intensive business. It can be started even if someone has few thousands in his pocket.

Seasonality in Training Business:

The first thing you need to understand is training Business Cycle. You might say I do not understand this. But you know that woolen product sells in winter and hardly there is any sale in summer. Similarly coolers and fan sales zoom in summer months and hardly any sale is there in winters. Although you do not find such seasonality in training business but training business also faces its lean season. For example tuitions peak during the month of examination. You would find every student looking for some tuitions. Once the examinations are over tuitions start facing the lean season. You need to understand the seasonality factor involved with your training business and make maximum while sun shines means that you earn as much as you can in your peak period so that your cost should be covered when you face the lean months.

How to Find Out the Area in Which You Should Start a Training Business?

Demand: You should start your training business which is in Demand. Do not try to start something which is not in demand. For example teaching mathematics is always in demand and would remain in demand for ever. Similary, speed would always be in damand hence Vedic Maths would remain in demand. Another example can be English speaking course which would remain in demand in non English speaking areas. Yet, another example can be training for job related competitive examinations.

Involvement: You should be fully aware of the involvement required by the Training Business you are going to start.

Set-up Cost: You should know the set-up cost of the business you are going to start.

Operation Cost: Money begets money. To generate an ongoing income you need to invest in operation of the business. This investment is recurring in nature and needs to be done month after month every month. This investment can be on regular advertisement, electricity, telephone and water bills, salary to staff etc. You should be aware of it.

Breakeven Time: Time taken in getting your invested money back from the business. Shorter the period better it is.

Return on Investment: How many times of your investment you can earn in a year. Higher the better.

How to Market Your Training Business?

Marketing when starting out: When you are starting out your expenditure on advertisement would be high because you need to make people aware of your services. I have listed the stages in marketing below:

Stages in Marketing Leading to Conversion:

Awareness Generation

Creating your advertisement: Phamplets, Banners, Newspaper Advertisement

Choosing mode of advertisement

Selecting appropriate Vehicle for advertisement distribution

Handling Response

Calling interested persons for a meeting

Meeting

Filling the Registration form

Payment

Issuing the Receipt

Marketing when established: Expenditure on advertisement decreases when you are established but still you need to do some advertisement to let the people know that you are there.

Best Method of Marketing: Marketing Method which works best in this segment is word of mouth advertisement. Word of Mouth gets generated when your customers feel excited about your services and they talk about it. Now the question is how to make them feel excited?

Again there can be several methods but the best method is to give them a talking point.

You can provide them a talking point by doing something which they have least expected. For example taking classes using wi-fi, inclusion of various activities such as games, puzzles etc. in the class.

Your student's success in some competition can become a talking point.

The quality control practices adopted by you can become a talking point.

You can think a lot of such things and make it a talking point.

Critical Success Factor: Marketing Communication. Communication with your prospective customers and present customers is critical to the success of a Training Business. What you communicate and how you communicate matters a lot. You need to do a lot of experiment to find out what works and what does not. Continue with the communication which works and discard others which does not. Designing Successful Marketing Communication is an art which you needs to master.

Why a Training Business can Fail?

Success is not defined and communicated: Training Business owner fails to define and communicate success parameters to his customers. It means that his customers do not know how this Training Business is going to measure improvement on day to day basis and communicate with them. Due to this customers always complain about not getting any improvement.

No Quality Control Mechanism: Most of the training business does not have quality control mechanism in place due which the business becomes person oriented where as it should be Process oriented.

Lot of Expectation: Persons who start a Training Business expects to perform the business overnight. Which does not happen. Due to this he starts putting less time to it and reduces his commitment.
